MONTHLY ATC SWAP

Picture
As RubyDog's is now closed, the monthly Vancouver ATC Swap has moved.  Maybe I'll see you there!

Location:
  MOSAIC Community Meeting Room
                      Ground Floor
                      1720 Grant St.
(This is 2 blocks north of East 1st Ave., just off Commercial Drive.)
Date:  3rd Sunday of every month
Time:  2:00 to 4:00
Card Quantity:  Expect to trade at least 15 cards and often as many as 28.
Themes:  There is a suggested theme each month.  Participants can choose to create art around any, all or none of the three themes.  They are simply suggestions in case your muse is on vacation.  The monthly theme list is at the bottom of this page.
Contact Info: If you'd like to join the Vancouver ATC Yahoo Group, please email Penelope at pharris@direct.ca .  I highly recommend joining as you'll
receive a monthly reminder about the swap and notices to time changes, which
                                                 sometimes happen.

WHAT'S AN ATC?

An ATC is an Artist Trading Card - a miniature, original piece of art with only two rules:
  -  The size must be 2 1/2" x 3 1/2"
  -  It must be traded, never sold.
Swiss artist m. vanci stirnemann (
www.artist-trading-cards.ch) is hailed as the father of ATCs.  Inspired by sports trading cards, he created and showcased 1,200 works of art in a 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" format at a Zurich, Switzerland gallery.  He refused to sell the cards, but offered to swap with anyone who brought in a similar size art piece and ... a movement was born!

ATC's came to Canada ( and, pretty much, the rest of the world) through Don Mabie (aka Chuck Stake), who was in Zurich to experience the first Artist Trading Card Session.  He brought the idea back to Calgary and, on September 17, 1997, the first trading session in Canada took place at The NEW Gallery, where 20 artists gathered to make and trade cards.  The idea caught on immediately and spread around the world.
